How are property taxes being lowered ?

EMP intends to redistribute funding from superfluous programs to core programs funded by property taxes. And programs are streamlined.

How does EMP address property taxes?

EMP proposes a 10% reduction in property taxes for home owners and small businesses in 2026 and no tax increase for subsequent years.

What is EMP's stance on infill?

EMP advocates for the reversal of blanket zoning for infill and density to preserve community character.

What about LRT expansion?

EMP supports curtailing further LRT expansion to prioritize existing infrastructure and community needs.

How will budgets be affected?

Budgets for police and fire services will each increase by 50% while budgets for other core services will remain unchanged or go up. Budgets for services which aren't for property owners paying taxes shall be brought into line.

How will EMP mitigate transit costs and construction impacts?

Future transit focuses on buses operating on existing roads to avoid the social and financial impacts of additional infrastructure for LRT.

How will EMP make transit safer?

Transit is intended to serve Edmontonians paying property taxes and the families of those paying property taxes as well as tourists visiting Edmonton. Transit users will be required to pass a quiz on etiquette, or be accompanied by an adult who has passed the quiz, for a license to use public transit, much like the license required to drive a vehicle. Safety of passengers on transit is paramount for EMP. Transit drivers shall be upgraded to double as peace officers.
